Will HBM supply, rather than advanced packaging capacity, be named by Nvidia or TSMC as the primary accelerator supply constraint in any 2027 earnings call?

The binding constraint migrates from CoWoS interposer capacity to HBM stacking and DRAM supply, so the named bottleneck in 2027 is memory rather than packaging.

The case for yes

Memory supply, not packaging, becomes the named constraint

HBM stack counts per accelerator rise from 8 to 16+ while DRAM makers expanded cautiously after the COVID cycle, making memory bit supply scale slower than interposer area. Suppliers that under-invested after that cycle now face demand that accelerated past forecasts, and headline capex gets partly absorbed by price rather than new bit supply. Accelerator shipment caps end up set by HBM allocation and price, with bottleneck economics transferring to memory vendors rather than packaging houses.

The case for no

Packaging, not memory, stays the named constraint

Transistor density scaling via Moore's Law becomes increasingly difficult and costly, so advanced packaging techniques such as fan-out panels, hybrid bonding and HBM stacking become the primary lever for scaling compute performance, with packaging the chokepoint through which further AI scaling must pass. Packaging capacity was already at its tightest in early 2024, when xAI, Anthropic, OpenAI and Google were all drawing from the same pool, and modern accelerators exceed what lithography can print in one shot, forcing chiplet-style packaging solutions. This side would be confirmed if Nvidia and TSMC both continue to name packaging, not memory, as the limiting input through 2027.

Memory supply, not packaging, becomes the named constraint

Suppliers cut or under-invested after the COVID cycle while demand accelerated past forecasts, so capacity is scarce at critical points; headline capex is partly absorbed by price, duplicated sites and system coordination, and the firms that…

  2. Daniel Romero

You can only demand what can be supplied; when the largest backers deploy billions expecting outperformance, compute demand rises against bottlenecks that will not be resolved before 2028 at a minimum, transferring economics to bottleneck owners.

Packaging, not memory, stays the named constraint

As shrinking transistors further becomes harder, the industry shifts to packaging-level innovations (CPO switches, HBM stacking, larger logic reticle sizes) to keep scaling compute, making advanced packaging the chokepoint through which further AI…

  2. Ruben Dominguez

In early 2024, TSMC chip packaging capacity was at absolute tightest. That was when xAI began assembling what would become Colossus. Every unit locked up at that point came directly out of a pool that Anthropic, OpenAI and Google were also drawing…

  3. Tscsw

Modern AI accelerators exceed the physical size that EUV lithography can print in a single shot. The solution is not larger chips but better packaging through chiplets. Multiple smaller dies assembled on shared substrates enable higher yields…

  4. Citrini

A visible frontier win pressures competitors to spend, and since they cannot cheaply change accelerator ecosystems the spending lands on Nvidia's next generation. The binding constraint therefore shows up in packaging and infrastructure supply…

  1. Advanced Micro Devices, gross margin, quarter ended September 26, 2026: whether it comes in at or above 51%.

    On the Docket Pendingth013-t01Pre-specified

    Question
Did the gross profit of Advanced Micro Devices for the quarter ended September 26, 2026 come to at or above 51.0% of its revenue?
    Source
SEC EDGAR, XBRL company facts of Advanced Micro Devices (Forms 10-Q and 10-K)
    Rule
Divide the gross profit by the revenue that Advanced Micro Devices reports for the quarter ended September 26, 2026 in its 10-Q or 10-K filing on SEC EDGAR. The answer is yes if the ratio is at or above 51.0%; no if it is below 51.0%.
If the source is late, revised or silent
If Advanced Micro Devices has not filed by November 12, 2026, or a filing restates a period the rule reads, the test is inconclusive, and the Result says what was read and what was missing.
    Base rate
Advanced Micro Devices's gross margin was 53.8% for the quarter ended June 27, 2026, by its filing on SEC EDGAR.
    Outside view
A year earlier, for the quarter ended June 28, 2025, the same line read 39.8%, so the rungs sit on the last print.
    What would change the number
A change in product mix, a one-time charge, or a reclassified line would move the reading.

A thesis page states one question and both sides of it; DeepStack takes no side in words, and its view is the number it gives each test before the date. Analysis and opinion, not investment advice. Voices are paraphrased from public writing and attributed by name; DeepStack shows no score, ranking or accuracy for any person. Pre-specified means the words were approved on or before the test’s date. Specified after the date means they were written afterwards: such a test is counted and shown, and never rated. An open question has no words yet. The Call’s number is the chance, from 0 to 100, that the Call gives the yes answer to a test’s question, recorded before the test’s date; it is DeepStack’s own reading, not a market price and not advice. The readers’ mark on the same line is the readers’ median, the middle of the numbers signed-in readers gave the test, shown from 25 readers. The machines: Each model read this page and nothing else. The number that counts is the latest one each model gave before the test closed.
